Recommended Assessment Tools

The following assessment tools are helpful in understanding oneself and how we relate to others.  I will recommend specific tools as a part of our coaching work based on the areas of focus that we have identified. You are welcome to use any of these assessment measures as a part of your own personal or professional development.  I have identified no-cost, or low-cost, options below.  There are many other professional assessment tools available that have a cost – please contact me if you have something specific that you would like to use.

Stress and Well-being Survey

Stress is a core element in any situation where an individual or couple wants to make changes in their life.  Stress can have a significant impact on your health and impact your body, mind, and behavior.  Understanding the sources and level of stress that you are experiencing will enable us to work as a team to find ways to address this dynamic as a part of your coaching work.  HeartMath is a leader in the research and treatment of stress.  They provide a free Stress and Well-being Survey at http://www.heartmath.org/free-services/self-assessment-tools/stress-and-well-being-survey.html that will provide a report that we can review and use as a baseline in our stress management work.  Please print off and bring this report with you.

Jung Typology Test

This is a free on-line adaptation of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.   I have found this profile to provide a “type” score that is very similar to what you would get from the authentic MBTI.  Once completed, you will get your MBTI "type" with the relative strength of your scores as well as some helpful material to read about your type.  I can provide you with additional MBTI related materials if you are interested and we can work with this in coaching.  You can find the Jung Typology Test at:  http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp.  I am certified to administer and coach using the actual Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.  Contact me if you are interested in using the MBTI.

Five Love Languages

This free assessment tool is used in relationship and marriage coaching.  It will identify the primary ways that a person likes to show love, and be loved.  These include 1) Words of Affirmation, 2) Acts of Service, 3) Receiving Gifts, 4) Quality Time and 5) Physical Touch.  Both people in the relationship should complete this profile independently.  You can access this tool at http://www.5lovelanguages.com/profile/.

Gallup StrengthsFinder

Understanding and effectively utilizing your personal strengths is an important factor in successful performance at work or in other areas of your life.  The Gallup organization has developed the Clifton Strengthsfinder assessment tool which has been used by millions of individuals to identify their top 5 strengths.  A nice report is provided that will provide helpful information that you can use to build on and utilize your strengths.  There is a fee of $9.99 to take this profile tool and it can be accessed at https://www.gallupstrengthscenter.com/
